Summary | 0000219: replace getms with faster working version | ||||||||
Description |
getms has become very slow due to authentication issues with the used rsh on dop158. As ssh works much faster, we will replace getms with a version that uses ssh. To allow users to work with this version, some things must be arranged: - make available the new tool to users; I mailed Mike Sipior if he has a central location for this tool; if not, he could probably provide it. - People who want to use getms new style will have to provide a public ssh key (preferably dsa) which we can add to the list of authorized keys on the archive host. The private key must be available from the users $HOME/.ssh. This is needed to allow passwordless access to the archive host for the users. Once these items are in place, people should have fast access again to the archive. |

New version works for me on wop24. I asked Jsh to ask as a test person on a diferrent system: Hi Josh, following the compalints on the WSRT users meeting we have decided to make available a new version of getms. THis version does not use the slow remote shell login anymore, but uses ssh for login and copying data. To allow users to work with this version, some things must be arranged: - make available the new tool to users; I mailed Mike Sipior if he has a central location for this tool; if not, he could probably provide it. - People we want to use getms new style will have to provide a public ssh key (preferably dsa) which we can add to the list of authorized keys on the archive host. The private key must be available from the users $HOME/.ssh. This is needed to allow passwordless access to the archive host for the users. Once these items are in place, people should have fast access again to the archive. I want to use you as a test user for this. Can you: - Copy the new getms (/wop24_1/schoenma/getms/getms) to your local system - Provide me with a public key? Cheers, Arno |

- New getms tested on opsinspect with export pipeline - New getms tested by Josh on MACOs and wop24 - Now made available to astronomers through Mike Sipior: Dear Astro-friends, I've grabbed the latest version (updated just this morning, in fact!) of the getms WSRT Measurement Set fetcher-thingy from Arno Schoenmakers, and have placed it at /local2/bin/getms. Information on its use can be found via "getms -h", and at the wiki page http://www.astron.nl/wsrt/wiki/doku.php?id=public:swdownloads:getms. [^] Let me know if there are any difficulties. Share and Enjoy, M. |
